What will you discover on the 4×4 trails in Sardinia?
The 4×4 trails in Sardinia take you through landscapes of exceptional variety.
In the north: the spectacular granite formations of Capo Testa, where ancient stone giants shaped by sea and wind create a surreal setting. These rocks, once quarried by the Romans to build the Pantheon, today offer outstanding terrain for 4×4 exploration.
On the west coast: the impressive dunes of Piscinas, rising up to 60 metres high. This wild beach, reachable only by track, rewards adventurous drivers with one of the finest sunsets in the Mediterranean.
In the mountains: the Su Gorropu gorge, one of the deepest in Europe, with walls reaching 500 metres. Note: 4×4 access is forbidden. You’ll either have to hike 16 km or as we did use a local 4×4 operator who takes you to the gorge. That way you experience this natural giant in a unique fashion, walking only about 10 km on foot.
In Ogliastra: exceptional archaeological sites such as the Tomba dei Giganti di Osono, remarkably well preserved and reachable via authentic gravel tracks. A unique historical heritage.
On the 4×4 trails in Sardinia, you’ll discover
- The nuraghi, prehistoric towers over 3,000 years old
- Abandoned mining villages, witnesses to Sardinia’s industrial history
- The Montevecchio mines, part of the UNESCO World Heritage
- The giants’ tombs, impressive Nuragic funerary monuments
What driving level is required?
Our Sardinia 4×4 roadbook covers trails across various difficulty levels:
- Easy tracks: scenic roads and well-maintained gravel trails, drivable with any stock 4×4.
- Intermediate tracks: sections with ruts, shallow fords and dense vegetation. A few scratches on the bodywork are possible.
- Difficult tracks: such as the route to Piscinas with its steps, ruts and scratches. These sections require a well-prepared vehicle and off-road experience.
Every difficulty is clearly documented in the roadbook, thanks to our alternative routes, you can easily bypass the trickier sections.
