Sardinia off road trails: the ultimate 1,500 km roadbook of wild tracks
Let’s be straight: we didn’t dream up these Sardinia off road trails from behind a screen. We drove them, track after track, in our Defender. More than 1,500 km, 60 % of it on dirt, the rest on scenic roads and forgotten lanes. This roadbook is our complete GPS trace, ready to download, spots included. We tell the whole backstory in our full account of the Sardinia 4×4 trip.

What travelers say
Thank you for this off-road discovery of Sardinia. I was blown away by the beauty of the island, especially up in the mountains. Stunning route, and thank you for the work you put in!
JeanSardinia, 2026We ran the roadbook in reverse. Superb! Next year we’ll come back and do it the other way. What’s great is being able to leave the trace, take other tracks, and drop back onto it.
MarcSardinia, 2026Superb roadbook. We’re out here right now, April 2026, having a blast. The landscapes are gorgeous. There are tracks for every level and scenery that takes your breath away. You need a good 15 days for this route, probably a bit more with the sightseeing. Beautiful work by whoever designed the roadbook. Well done. We’re used to roaming in Europe and beyond, and it had been a long time since we’d done such a fine roadbook. I recommend it without hesitation.

Our Sardinia off road trails
We drove this island on two legs and four paws. Pixie, our Yorkshire, slept in the Defender 130 at every camp, nose to the wind on the tracks of the mountainous interior. We cooked facing the sea, waited for a flock to clear the trail, fixed a coolant hose at sunset. Nothing staged: that’s what real travel looks like.
This roadbook is the version we wish we’d had in our hands before leaving. We put our favorite finds into it, and the places we hold onto in memory. No spot is thrown in at random: every waypoint on these Sardinia off road trails was chosen because it was worth it. If the adventure calls you elsewhere, take a look at our other roadbooks: same standards, same honesty, same dust under the tires.

Frequently asked questions about the Sardinia off road trails
Do I need a modified 4×4 to follow the route?
No. A stock 4×4 in good condition, with decent tires and standard ground clearance, gets through everywhere. The few more committing sections are flagged, each with a bypass option.
How many days should I plan?
Between 10 and 14 days to cover the 1,500 km without rushing. Travelers who add sightseeing and beach days usually reckon on about 15.
When is the best time to go?
Spring and autumn. The island is green, temperatures are mild and the wild camps are far quieter than in high summer.
Do the Sardinia off road trails work with my navigation app?
Yes. The tracks come as standard GPX files, ready to import into the usual apps and GPS units such as Osmand, Gaia, Locus or a Garmin. Once downloaded, everything works with no signal at all.
Can I do it in a van or on a motorbike?
In a 4×4 van or on a trail bike, yes. In a two-wheel-drive touring van, part of the tracks is out of reach, but the scenic roads stay open to you.
How do I receive the roadbook?
By instant download once payment goes through. You get the PDF and the GPX files, with no postal shipping and no waiting.
