Our own morocco road trip
What stays with us from this morocco road trip is how fast the landscape flips: after the heat of the desert, the down jackets come back out for evenings around the fire at camp. Summits still under snow in May, complete quiet, nobody around. Then the canyons, the sheer scale of it, and the climb to the highest pass in Morocco, the highest we have ever taken the Defender over. The cold, the wind, and that feeling of being very small.
Further north everything turns green: water everywhere, camps along the river, thousand-year-old cedar forests and macaques playing hide-and-seek in the branches. We keep our distance, stay quiet, and take it in.

Who is this morocco road trip for?
A morocco road trip on this scale suits anyone who wants to watch the country change under their wheels. You start in bare rock and heat, you camp above 2,500 metres, you finish in green valleys and terraced fields. It asks for self-sufficiency, a properly prepared vehicle and some experience of driving on dirt, especially on the narrow high-altitude sections. In exchange, it gives you a full south-to-north traverse that few travellers do in one go.
Every pass is a discovery. Every bivouac, a promise of freedom.

What exactly is this morocco road trip?
A south-to-north crossing of the country, fully self-supported. You travel in your own vehicle, you drive, nobody comes along. No agency, no guide, no convoy to keep up with. You buy the roadbook, load the GPX track, and leave when you want, at the pace you want.
What vehicle do you need?
A 4×4 or a 4×4 van on decent tyres gets through everywhere, and trail bikes do very well. For expedition trucks and larger builds, several sections are narrow and exposed: dedicated alternatives are plotted in the roadbook so you can bypass them without losing any of the route.
Does the roadbook work offline?
Yes. You get a complete PDF and the GPX tracks to load into your GPS or your app. Once downloaded, you navigate with no signal, even at the bottom of a valley with no coverage.
How many days should you allow for the route?
We suggest 8 to 10 days to link it all up without rushing. If you want time for the towns, the passes and the high-altitude bivouacs, count on two weeks instead.
How do you handle fuel on this morocco road trip?
The roadbook takes care of that part: every fuel stop we found along the route is detailed and marked as a waypoint in the GPX track, including the possible detours. So you know where and when to fill up before each remote stretch. It is up to you to adapt to your vehicle’s real range and carry a jerrycan if needed.
What is the best season to drive it?
The window runs from April to October, depending on snow conditions on the high mountain passes.
