Road Trip Corse 1 Week: A Journey Between Chaos and Wonder, the Honest Recap.

Corsica is a place we know well. Since we were kids, we’ve been going there regularly, and together, Julien and I have made over 15 trips to the island, by car, by motorbike, and this time… in a 4×4.
This 1-week Corse road trip started full of plans: we had 3 weeks mapped out, stunning landscapes in mind, and tracks we wanted to explore… But in the end, the adventure got cut short.
Why?
We’re telling you everything, the highlights, and the not-so-great moments too.

THE STRUGGLES

Southern Corsica: When the Dream Goes Wrong

We had imagined a peaceful drive down to Bonifacio, with wild campsites in nature, secluded coves all to ourselves, a little dust, and a lot of freedom. What you see on social media is a dream. The real life was something completely different.
Southern Corsica, as beautiful as it is, has become very (too) crowded. It’s hard to find a place to sleep without being disturbed or breaking the law. We were lucky to camp once thanks to a friendly shepherd, but that’s it.
Between the tourist crowds, strict rules, and a frankly hostile atmosphere towards wild camping, we quickly realized this Corsica road trip wouldn’t go as planned.

And the campsites? Way too expensive for what they offer, even off-season. As a result, after a few days, we decided to change direction completely, no pun intended and head back north.

1-WEEK ROAD TRIP: Cap Corse & Agriates Desert

And there, we fell completely in love. The north of the island reminded us why we love Corsica so much: wild spots, perfect trails to have fun in a 4×4, secluded beaches… a real feeling of freedom.
But don’t get your hopes up for wild camping: forget about finding dream spots to park your 4×4.
Instead, we’ve handpicked some really nice campsites in our free roadbook so you can still enjoy to the fullest.

THE GOOD TIMES

The Agriates Desert: pure adventure

A 100% natural setting

No concrete, no crowds: just the maquis, dust, and turquoise coves. Here, Corsica is raw and stunning.

Thrilling 4×4 trails

Some trails are challenging, but that’s exactly what makes the adventure so authentic.

Beaches that are well worth the effort

Saleccia, Lotu, Ghignu, Malfalcu: you have to seek them out, but once you’re there… you won’t want to leave.

Cap Corse: the other face of the island

Cap Corse is a gem.

Less crowded, more rustic, and strikingly beautiful. We really recommend doing the loop along the famous Cap Corse corniche, the road that winds between sea and mountains, offering incredible views of the sea and cliffs.
Eastern side is greener and gentler. The marinas of Erbalunga or Sisco are perfect for taking a break or hiking on the Customs Officers’ Trail (Sentier des Douaniers).
Western side is rougher and wilder. We loved villages like Nonza with its black pebble beach, or Canari. Here you find the old Corsica, the one with small perched villages, hidden coves, and narrow roads where you’ll meet more goats than tourists.

Our Tips for a 4×4 Road Trip Corse (1 Week, Realistic Style)

Because a successful road trip is as much about freedom as it is about common sense. Here, we share our best tips for exploring the northern part of the island in a natural, well-equipped, and responsible way.

Focus on the North

Cap Corse and Agriates are much better suited for a nature road trip. Fewer people, more freedom.

Prepare your vehicle

The trails can be rough. Suitable tires, a compressor, a puncture repair kit… better safe than sorry.

Respect the environment

This can’t be repeated enough. No litter, no fires, and absolute discretion.
